THEN NOW

"I hate this photograph because it's just not me. I'm transgendered and I knew it from the time I was six. I was raped when I was fifteen while dressed as a girl. That's why I hate men.

"I see who I'm supposed to be. I see success now. I went from having nothing to having a home and a significant other who loves me. Being out of the closet, being in public as a female, I don't have suicidal tendencies any more. I've begun hormone therapy. February 10, 2010, was when I went to court and was granted a name and gender change. I ceased to be 'Junior' and became 'Shannon'."
